The book is 1st person and in the veiw of Alex Sawyer. The other characters are Donavon, "The Skulls", Zee, The Warden, The Blacksuits, The Wheezers, The Rats, Simon, (I'll add more when I remember them.) The plotline is that Alex is framed by Furnace guards (A.K.A. blacksuits) for murduring his best friend. He was thrown in Furnace for it, and thats when all **** broke loose. There were these flayed dogs, the wheezers, the blacksuits, and the warden when he first arrived in Furnace.

When Alex arrived, he ALSO met Donovan and Zee, whom together tried escaping. Right in the middle of their plan to smuggle now-explosive gloves into the mining room to blow a hole leading to a river he'd found, They gained the help of another ptisoner, whom was killed when they jumped down to the river, and an actual criminal who led the skulls; one of the gangs who took took lives in the summer of slaughter. When they fell to the river,
Alex was K.O. by the rocks. When the warden found them again, he put them in solitary confindment and they worked out a system of communication. Then a kid, Simon, who got Alex and Zee to help escape, even after they discovered Donovan was becoming a Blacksuit.When they put their plan to climb out through the incinerator into action, they were caught, again.
